Recruiting
Know Where to Look
Recruiting can be tricky. You have to know how to get in front of the people with the skills and traits you are looking for. That means knowing where they look and what they are looking for. More importantly it means making sure your offering stands out to the right individuals. You need to be able to speak to their needs and wants. Most importantly you need to separate your company and from all the others out there.
Know How to Capture Their Interest
Good salespeople are ambitious. They want to feel like their next undertaking is an opportunity, not a job. Go on to any job site and see how many postings capture your interest. Most companies seem to subscribe to the philosophy of creating ads that are a simple overview of responsibilities and benefits. Yuck! Save the job descriptions for the employee handbook.
Your ad should capture the magic of working for your company and get them excited about joining a fantastic organization like yours. Make it interesting. Make it compelling. Make it worth reading and worth responding to. The same principles that apply to marketing to clients apply to attracting top talent. You have to know your target audience. You have to understand what makes them tick. You have to know their needs, their wants, their fears, their hot-buttons. You have to capture their attention, make a compelling argument, provide proof elements to substantiate what you claim, and give them a reason to take the next step.

Know What You Really Want
Be honest with yourself and with your candidates. There is NO NEED to fabricate anything. The worst thing you could do is position the job as something it isn’t. You want to make it as attractive as possible for THE RIGHT PERSON. If you provide a unique offering that your competition can’t touch, SAY IT! If there is a legitimate opportunity for the right rep to make six figures and move into management in the first year, SAY IT!
