The Baker Doesn't Know How to Sell Baked Goods

He may bake the best pastry in town, but he’ll get outsold every day of the week by a baker with an inferior product but superior message.

Don’t believe for a second that it’s not the case. Think McDonalds sells the best hamburger, or Hershey’s makes the best chocolate bar? Please. 
What about your industry? Who’s at the top? What separates them from the rest of the pack? Is their offering truly the best, or have they just had the strongest sales and marketing?

Obviously you want to strive for both, but in a competitive marketplace, the superior message always wins the day. The product need only be adequate.

If you know that people would choose yours nine times out of ten if they had all the facts,
If you have something truly unique in the marketplace,
And people aren’t flocking to buy it… you need better sales and marketing.
Companies that fail rarely do so because they can’t deliver. They rarely fail because there wasn’t a need for the service. They fail because they couldn’t get that message out to people.
